What it is for
Between a free standing post that wanders and a bolted one that never moves sits this. The plate goes down without penetrating the floor, the post attaches to it and stays where it was put through everyday knocks, then lifts off with a deliberate pull when the room needs clearing. On steel floors and racking there is no plate needed at all. It is the practical answer in leased buildings where drilling is not permitted but a drifting queue line is still a daily annoyance.
