What Guelph hires

A waiting line that only ever moves one way.

A temporary clinic — a vaccination day, a screening drive, a community health fair — turns a gym or a church hall into a building with a single direction of travel. People come in one door, register, wait, are seen and leave by another, and nobody should meet someone walking the opposite way. The line is also full of people who are anxious, unwell, pushing a stroller or using a walker, so it has to be obvious without being loud. Retractable belt does that better than anything heavier: it reads as a guide rather than a barrier, and any volunteer can unclip it when somebody needs to be taken out of the queue.

In one door, out of another

Belt posts build a single route from registration to the exit, so the line never doubles back on itself.

Waiting that stays clear

Switchbacks are spaced so a stroller or a wheelchair can follow them, and no run is ever laid across an exit door.

Signs that settle people

Printed panels explain each step — register, wait, be seen, leave — in plain words, so staff are not asked the same thing over and over.

Where we deliver

The city and the county that surrounds it.

Clinics here are set up in community centres, school gyms, faith halls and rural township halls, sometimes several in turn as a program travels around the county. Delivery, arranging the route and collecting at the end are priced line by line, so a health team that has run a clinic before can take the equipment at the door and lay it out from the plan it used last time.

Deliveries go to the halls and rooms a Guelph clinic is set up in:

  • the community and recreation centres across the city
  • the university athletics centre and its gymnasiums
  • school gyms and church halls in the neighbourhoods
  • township halls and arenas out in the county
  • the downtown civic buildings and library branches
  • the exhibition hall at the fairgrounds

Send a sketch of the room with the way in and the way out marked, and the belt run is counted so the route never has to turn back on itself.

Worth asking

What a clinic organiser asks first.

What does it cost to rent belt stanchions in Guelph?
For a clinic line, a black post with retractable belt is $19 a day, $29 across three days or $39 across a week — the same rates as a gold post with velvet rope. A clinic that runs over several days usually takes the three-day or weekly rate. Bringing it, setting out the route and taking it away are separate charges on the quote.
How do you keep a clinic queue moving in one direction?
By giving it one entrance to the belt run and one exit from it, with nothing in between that lets someone step backwards against the flow. Switchbacks lead towards the registration desk and a separate run leads from the treatment area to the door. Mark both doors on your sketch and the route is drawn between them.
Can the line be opened for someone who needs to leave it?
Yes. A retractable belt unclips from the post at any point, so a volunteer can open a gap, walk someone out and close it again without moving any equipment. That is one of the main reasons belt is chosen over barricade in a clinic: it guides people without penning them in.
What should the signs in a clinic say?
Whatever takes a question off the staff: where to register, where to wait, which door leads out, where to go if you feel unwell. Short wording, large type and one idea per panel. Sign frames take printed panels, and those panels are produced for the order, so send the text with the brief.
Can the same set travel between clinic sites?
Yes. A program that visits a community centre, then a township hall, then a school gym can be quoted as a single hire that follows it from address to address. List the sites in the order the clinic reaches them, and every move is priced as a separate line.
