What Barrie hires

A lane on snow and a room full of wet boots.

Much of what leaves for this area in winter is headed uphill, to a resort or a club hosting a race, a corporate ski outing or a brand activation at the base of the lifts. Two very different jobs sit on one order. Outside, a lane has to hold its line on packed snow, where a floor base slides and a light post tips in the wind coming down the slope. Inside, the chalet becomes a bar, a coat room and a stage for the après, with meltwater on every surface and a crowd in ski boots. The equipment is split between the two, and each half is chosen for the ground it stands on.

Barricade for the lift side

Galvanized sections stand on wide feet on packed snow and hook into a continuous lane, where a post would lean or be knocked flat by a passing ski.

Belt posts for the boot room and the bar

Inside the lodge the lines are for rentals, lockers and drinks, and a retractable belt keeps each one tidy on a floor that never quite dries.

Rope and a runner for the après

Where the party is the point, polished posts, a velvet rope and a red carpet runner turn the chalet door into an entrance.

Where we deliver

The city, the bay and the hills to the north and west.

Orders go out through the city and up the county roads to the resorts, clubs and halls around it, and in winter the route is planned around the roads a truck can climb and the places it can turn at the top. Getting the order to the hill, setting it out and bringing it back down are each priced as a separate line, so a resort with a grounds crew can take a drop and lay the lane itself.

Deliveries go to the slopes, lodges and halls a Barrie date is held in:

  • the ski resorts and their base areas in the hills north of the city
  • the private ski clubs along the escarpment to the west
  • the chalets, lodges and après bars at the foot of the lifts
  • the waterfront parks and the marina on the bay
  • the arena and the event centre in the city
  • the resort hotels and conference rooms around the lake

Tell us what the ground is at each end of the order — snow at the lift, timber boards in the lodge — and the kit is split to suit both rather than sent as one count.

Worth asking

The questions a ski-hill hire raises.

What are the rental rates for stanchions in Barrie?
Gold posts with velvet rope and black posts with retractable belt are both $19 for a day, $29 for three days and $39 for a week. Getting the order up to the hill, laying the lanes on the snow and bringing everything back down are three further lines on the quote, each one priced by itself.
Will posts and barricades stand on snow?
Barricade will, on packed or groomed snow, because it rests on wide feet and each section hooks to the next. A post on a floor base will not hold a line out there, so posts are kept for the lodge, the deck and anywhere the ground has been cleared. Tell us which stretches of the lane are on snow and the order is divided accordingly.
Can a lift lane be branded for a sponsor?
Yes. Printed covers go over the barricade sections along the lane, and at a race finish or a demo event they are the most photographed thing on the hill. Every cover is printed to match the sponsor artwork sent with the order. On an open slope they also catch the wind, which is worth mentioning if the lane runs across the hill rather than up it.
What works inside the chalet for an après event?
Belt posts for the lines that form at the bar, the rentals counter and the lockers, and polished posts with rope at the door if the party is meant to feel like an occasion. A carpet runner at the entrance gives people somewhere to stamp the snow off. Lodge floors stay wet, so say whether they are timber, tile or rubber matting.
Can one order serve a hill and a hotel on the same trip?
Yes. A race on the slope and a dinner at a resort down the road are quoted as one movement with two stops, and the equipment is divided between them on the truck rather than raised as two orders. Send both addresses and say which set is going where.
