Gold works at an event because it matches rather than contrasts. Against a red or white rope the post and the rope read as one object and that continuity is most of what separates a designed entrance from an assembled one. It suits ballrooms and hotel function rooms which are usually built around warm lighting and warm metals already. Worth keeping the run short: a gold entrance reads as expensive, a gold queue through a whole hall reads as too much.
