What it is for
Stanchion posts outlast their belts by years. The steel and the cast iron are fine long after the belt has frayed at the edges or the spring has lost its pull, and replacing the whole post at that stage is an expensive habit. The cassette is the whole working mechanism in one part and it swaps out with a screwdriver. It is also the cheapest way to change colour across an entire site, or to put a printed belt into posts you already own without buying new stanchions.
