What it is for
A standard 2 inch belt is fine for a solid colour and cramped for anything else. Put a logo on it and the wordmark shrinks to something people read only once they are already standing at the post. The extra inch changes that completely because print scales in both directions, so the same artwork lands about 50 percent larger and stays legible down the length of a hall. It works the same way for safety messages on a site where the point is that somebody reads the belt before they walk into the area rather than after. Everything else about the post is unchanged.
