What it is for
Work inside a terminal or a plant does not stop when the lights go down and neither does the foot traffic around it. A belt across a corridor is easy to miss in a dim concourse at four in the morning which is exactly when somebody walks into it. The light on top solves that at a glance and pairs with a safety message on the belt for anyone close enough to read it. The base is built for the abuse this environment hands out, and the post is heavy enough to stay standing when a pallet jack clips it.
