What it is for
Some rooms are built on two or three materials and nothing else, and dropping a red rope into one undoes the work. Grey is the answer for those spaces. It sits close to concrete, brushed steel and pale timber so the barrier registers as a line without registering as a colour. Against satin stainless posts it is almost monochrome, which is usually the brief in a gallery or a flagship store. It also hides everyday marks better than white while staying much lighter than black.
