What it is for
Velvet has one register and it is formal. A braided rope has texture and pattern instead of pile so it reads closer to a decorative detail than a red carpet fixture, which is what makes it work in a restaurant or a boutique where the rope is part of the interior rather than an event prop. It is lighter than the cotton core ropes so it hangs with a shallower curve. Two stock lengths cover most layouts and four colours give enough range to sit with warm or cool interiors.
