What it is for
The problem with bolting a rope line down is the morning the furniture truck arrives. Sockets solve it. The post is rigid while it is in place, then lifts straight out and a cap drops in so the floor is flat and safe to wheel a trolley across. It is also the answer where fire routes have to stay clear at certain times or where a room hosts a banquet on Saturday and a trade show on Monday. Nothing to store beyond the posts themselves since there is no weighted base attached.
