What it is for
Where the crown top announces itself the ball top does the opposite. It is the finial that suits a room with wood panelling and a marble floor, where the barrier should look like it has always been there rather than like an event was set up this morning. It also takes signage badly on purpose — a ball top cannot be tapped for a sign frame, so if you need a post that carries a sign look at the flat or crown instead. Matched with a dome base it makes the most traditional combination in the range.
