What it is for
A barrier around an exhibit has two jobs that pull against each other. It has to be obvious enough that nobody walks into a case and quiet enough that it is not what visitors remember. Height is what settles it. Dropping the post below eye level keeps the sightline to the object clear while the belt still reads as a line nobody should cross. The floor protector runs the full circumference of the base which matters more here than anywhere else since gallery floors are often original and expensive. Finishes stay muted so the post reads as building fabric rather than equipment.
