Specifying for the coast
The rain decides the finish, not the room.
This is the one place on the list where the weather changes what you should order. A powder coated post is built for an interior and it is the right answer for a lobby, but a season of coastal rain finds every chip in it and works underneath. Outdoors here, stainless and galvanised are the finishes that come back looking like themselves — which is why an outdoor queue in Vancouver is usually specified in a different finish from the indoor line it connects to, and why the two still have to read as one line.
Outside: stainless or galvanised
