Almost every brief here crosses a threshold somewhere: a queue that starts on a plaza and finishes in a foyer, an activation that spends the morning outside and the evening in a hall. The equipment that handles those two halves is not the same equipment, and the useful thing is not to pretend otherwise but to make the two read as one line anyway.

Specifying against the wind
Weight the ends, not the middle.
A belt run fails at its ends first. The posts in the middle are held from both sides by the belts themselves; the two on the ends are held from one side only, and those are the ones that go over. The same logic applies to a barricade line, where a straight unballasted run is a hinge waiting for a gust and a run turned back at both ends is a structure.
Heavier bases at the ends
If the whole line cannot be weighted, weight the first and last post and the corners. That is where the load arrives.
Turn the ends back
A line that finishes into a wall, a barrier or its own return is far harder to move than one that finishes in open air.

Worth asking
What an outdoor Calgary brief asks.
- Will a standard belt post stay upright outside?
- Not reliably, and that is the honest answer rather than a sales one. An indoor post is weighted for knocks, not for load across a belt. Outdoors the same post needs a heavier base underneath it, which is a separate item in the catalogue rather than something added to the one you already have.
- What ballasts a barricade run?
- Sandbags on the feet, counted by the number of feet rather than the length of the line. On grass a peg does some of the work; on paving or a plaza deck it does none, and that is where a long straight run gets into trouble first.
- Can you deliver to Banff or Canmore?
- Yes, and it is worth telling us early rather than late. Mountain venues tend to have a tighter unloading window and less room to stage equipment than anything in the city, so the order is packed differently for them.
- Our queue starts outside and ends inside. Two orders?
- One order, two specifications. The outdoor half takes the heavier bases and the indoor half does not, and we match the two on post shape so the route reads as one line even though the feet under it are different.
- Does printed artwork survive being outside?
- Printed belts and barricade covers are made for outdoor use and they hold up. What shortens their life is being packed away damp rather than being rained on, so if a run comes down wet, say so when it is collected.
