What Edmonton hires

The line that matters forms outside the gate.

On a concert or game night the pressure point is not the seating bowl, it is the screening. Every guest walks through a bag check and a scan before the doors, and the lanes feeding those tables decide whether the plaza stays orderly or clogs. So the brief here is about the approach: how many screening positions there are, which lanes are for guests without bags, where somebody is taken aside for a second look and how the lanes split so that one slow table does not stall the rest.

A lane for every table

Belt posts divide the approach into one lane per screening position, so a slow search stalls one lane and leaves the others moving.

Express lanes marked clearly

Sign frames at the head of each lane say which one is for guests with no bag, so people sort themselves before they reach the front.

Barricade on the plaza

Interlocking steel shapes the outdoor approach and stops the lanes spilling into the road or the transit entrance.

Where we deliver

The downtown district, the grounds and the towns beyond.

An event night brings a lot of trucks to the same buildings at once, so the drop is planned against the venue’s loading schedule and the gate a delivery is told to use. The drop, the build and the collection are costed individually, and screening lanes are usually a setup job, because the lane widths are agreed with the security lead and are easier to build than to describe.

  • Sherwood Park
  • St. Albert
  • Leduc
  • Spruce Grove
  • Nisku
  • Stony Plain
  • Beaumont
  • Fort Saskatchewan
  • Devon
  • Morinville

Deliveries go to the buildings an Edmonton event night fills:

  • the arena in the downtown entertainment district
  • the football stadium on the north side and the ballpark by the river
  • the exhibition grounds and the expo centre beside them
  • the concert halls and theatres downtown
  • the university field house and athletics centre
  • the community arenas and recreation centres in the suburbs

Send the number of screening positions and the gate each lane feeds, and the count comes back lane by lane.

Doors and screening

What an Edmonton event night needs answered.

What do screening-lane stanchions cost to rent in Edmonton?
Each set — belt on a black post, which is what screening lanes use, or velvet rope on a gold post for a hospitality entrance — rents at $19 a day, $29 for three days or $39 a week. Delivery to the venue, building the lanes and collecting them after the event are quoted apart from those rates.
How many lanes does a bag check need?
As many as there are screening positions, plus one for guests arriving without a bag if the venue runs one. Tell us the number of tables or wands at each gate and the count is built from that, with a spare set of posts so a lane can be added on the night if one gate gets busier than planned.
Can the queue be kept out of the road and the transit stairs?
Yes. Steel barricade shapes the outdoor end of the approach and holds the queue on the plaza, while belt posts divide it into lanes nearer the tables. Send a sketch of the gate with the road, the transit stairs and any emergency route marked, and the run is laid so the queue backs up along the building rather than across a path that has to stay clear.
Can the lanes carry printed signs?
Yes. Sign frames at the head of each lane take a printed panel — bag policy, ticket scanning, express entry — and the belts themselves can be printed with a message instead of plain black. Anything printed is produced to order, so send the wording along with the gate plan.
Where does a guest go for a second search?
Into a short pen set off from the main lanes and marked out with belt posts, so anyone taken aside is out of the flow rather than standing in the middle of it. It is worth drawing on the sketch, because it changes where the lanes can run.
